Stitch and Toothless by BenJJedi Stitch and Toothless by BenJJedi
Ah, yes. Stitch and Toothless. They have a few things in common. For one thing, the movies they star in are directed by the same guys, Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. And another similarity is their designs.

Moving on, you know how sometimes people compare characters like Ariel, Belle, Jasmine and Tiana based on animation designs? Well, perhaps that's because they're animated by the same person, and thus look similar to one another. Stitch and Toothless are no exceptions.

For instance, you can tell that Stitch and Toothless look similar from their melon-shaped heads, their big eyes, their noses and claws, and their teeth. Just look carefully. ;)

Stitch (C) Disney
Toothless (C) Dreamworks

There is no similarities other than the same directors -_-

Stitch is an alien, and Toothless is a dragon that's based off an axolotl.

They're extremely similar. However, all Chris Sanders' characters are! They are all plump, have round head, big eyes, nose right in the middle, pointy ears, sharp teeth.. For more "Stitches" look up "The Art of the Lion King" - hyena concepts have Stitchy heads..

That's because Chris Sanders designed Stitch and when he moved from Disney to Dreamworks he wanted his design implemented in Toothless (he directed HTTYD)

I kept saying the same thing throughout the movie. The movements, the appearance and even the sounds were kind of similar.

That and when Toothless barfed up the fish for Hiccup. It was almost like when Stitch ate up the cake and then spit it back out on the plate for Lilo (though she didn't eat it but still xD)

The big eyes and melon head is just the designer's style. Other than the things you've listed, they look nothing alike whatsoever.

I'm actually finding myself getting more and more annoyed at people who want to get mad that others make this connection. I noticed it from the very beginning and that was before I even knew it was directed by Chris. I was astounded when I found out because it made me feel less crazy.
His art style is VERY unique and no matter what he helps design, that style seeps into his work. Princess and the Frog had animators that had worked on Mulan, Aladdin, and other disney animations, and if you looked close enough you could tell. Naveen had characteristic of Aladdin and Eric...Tiana had characteristics of Mulan.
Saying they are similar in drawing style is NOT SAYING THEY ARE SIMILAR AS CHARACTERS. Please people, understand this. I'm tired of people who make these connections being attacked. Really...it's a compliment to the artists. It means their work is so unique and unforgettable that you can pick it out of anywhere, even when it is something as small as teeth and head shape.

TLDR; Saying they are similar in drawing style is NOT SAYING THEY ARE SIMILAR AS CHARACTERS. FFS!

okay...I'm done with my rant! I agree...I love the similarities. I also see similarities in the design for the gronkles and some of Chis' other creature designs.

Do you watch Chris Sanders up here? His art is amazing. `alohalilo
sorry again for the long winded rant.

lol. I said it's the only one I think could be successful!! I know tv can kill things, but if they got a good writing team and did some plot development BEFORE they started, it wouldn't be filled with shit like some other things...but really...more character and dragon development. I think it could work. Just don't give it to disney...they ruin everything for tv.

disney is only allowed to make fairytales in the old way...like 'the princess and the frog'
but i have this gut feeling that is telling me that HTTYD will be screwed up
